This stack of orange-rope creels alongside the bright lifering caught my eye last week, as a very paintable scene.
From this viewpoint it’s a stacked, linear composition: top of harbour wall, creels, stone bank and rocks. There’s the question of whether to include any buildings in the background, which could distract the eye. Maybe have the lifering go off the top of the composition?
Today when I walked past I noticed the blue rope with little white floats, and found myself considering a composition from a viewpoint that reduces the dominance of the creels.
It’s more about the tangle of blue rope, and the echo of blue and white in the crates on the right. The background could be simplified by leaving out the rocks top left and harbour top right.
I find myself wanting to make the edge of the wall parallel to the edge of the paper. Easily done with a photo edit.
Does it need any sea at all? Use artistic licence to extend the stonework behind the lifering? Choices to be explored.

I think part of my problem is I prefer the buildings further to the right at the old harbour, and have categorised these ones as less interesting, whereas really it’s being spoilt for choice.
